Questions We Answer Is my first appointment free? No. Your first half hour is free and the other half hour you must pay a fee. Is the firm experienced in this form of work? We only take instructions in matters in areas of law in which we have the necessary experience. Many lawyers specialise in particular areas of law. If we do not have the experience for your type of problem, we will recommend other Law Firms with the necessary experience. What are my chances of success? We will tell you of your chances of success and the risks. What work will your lawyer be doing? If it is a dispute, we shall explain to you the process involved before the Court or Tribunal and prospects of resolving the matter by mediation or dispute resolution. If it is a commercial matter, we shall advise you in our first meeting about minimising risk, asset protection and other strategies so that you can focus on your business. What are my options? After you have explained your problem, we will outline your options and how your problem can be solved. How long will it take? We will give you an estimate of time within which the matter will be finalised. How much will it cost? We will give you a fixed fee in commercial matters for the work to be undertaken. If it is a litigation matter we shall give you an estimate of our fees and options to pay your fees. At our first meeting we shall advise you in writing how much the work will cost or, if that is not possible, how costs will be calculated. What other costs will you be required to pay? If it is a litigation matter, the barrister's fees and expert's fees. You may also be required to pay the other party's legal costs if you lose the case.
